Below, President Gary Olson thanks Marilyn Holdenried after her discussion of the Lake County Quilt Trail, it's origins and progress to date.

Marilyn explained to Sunrise Rotarians that she had learned about the outdoor quilt displays while attending a meeting in Tennessee. As she was leaving the meeting she picked up a brochure on the Quilt Trails fo Tennessee and followed the brochure map to a barn that displayed a giant quilt design - that of a maple leaf.

Upon her return, Marilyn went to the friends of the Kelseyville Pear Festival and requested $1,000 to invest in the quilt project which is designed to continue the celebration of our agricultural heritage .

With the help of Rose Hershey, Vicki Smith and many other volunteers the project began. Quilt blocks are created to connect to the history of the building or the celebration of a family. In seven months they completed 13 quilts prior to the 2010 Pear Festival.

They are now raffling a quilt, the proceeds of the raffle will go toward creating a website and Lake County Quilt Trail maps.

Tennessee Quilt Trail - In the beginning...

One woman, Donna Sue Groves, honoring her mother and her Appalachian heritage created a national phenomenon - it all started in 2001.

Donna Sue Groves and her mother, Nina Maxine, a 5th
generation quilter whose stories and handwork inspired the Ohio and National Quilt Barn Trail.

Donna Sue’s early vision was to create an imaginary clothesline of connecting barns decorated with quilt squares across rural America. In 10 short years, her dream has spread to 29 US states and 2 Canadian provinces with over 3,200 colorful quilt squares.

"Oh hearty and hale swami, tell us what you see..."

Richard Smith delivers the Kelseyville Rotary News on June 3, 2011... such as it was - most enlightening and humorous:
