April 9, 2010 :  Flora Krosnovsky - Born in Oklahoma about 70 years ago.  First came to California to visit an aunt who had moved to here to work in the factories (WWII era) where she was like Rosie the Riveter.  My father was educated; my mother wasn't - always pushed and grew up as kids feeling we could do anything.  Five kids, the boys married uneducated women; the girls made sure their kids got educated - a competition.   They moved to a farm in Tracy.  Mother became a nurse and then a beautician.  Went to school in Tracy - two little black girls in a small school house with only five rows of seats.  Flora learned how to do everything on the farm.  Planned to go to nursing school but instead go married.  Had her first child at 20 - became especially aware of the need for an education, book smart but not other smart.  Had her second child at 23.  Then to San Francisco State where she earned a BA degree, then California School of Psychology for a Masters and then a Ph.D.  Flora's two sons have graduated college, one a physician in Michigan and the other an Engineer here in California.  Flora has worked many jobs:  Department of Motor Vehicles where her boss called her in and told her she was too smart for the job so she went back to school; trained racing quarter horses, taught college, counselor, and therapist.  Did everything she wanted to do.  Both parents died in their 50's.  Flora wanted to be there for her kids.  Mentored other kids as well - they called her house the "house of hope."  Also mentors kids who have lost their jobs and need direction.  Kids call her the Corporate Grandmother - always traveling, many large projects, make an appointment.
